Getting To Know The Neighbors

Public and people with lived experience

This page is dedicated to sharing those voices and creating a space for connection, learning, and hope.

At the National Centre for Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm Research, the voices and experiences of people with lived experience are at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that those who have experienced suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or the loss of someone to suicide bring unique insight, understanding, and compassion to our work. This page is dedicated to sharing those voices and creating a space for connection, learning, and hope. You can also learn more about our Experience to Experts advisory group, who bring their lived experience and expertise to help shape our work.

Here, you’ll find a range of stories and resources shaped by lived experience. Watch video stories from people who have found strength and recovery in different ways, explore case studies that highlight real journeys and the lessons they offer, and read reflections from those who are helping to improve support and understanding across communities.
