The National Centre for Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm Research serves as the official evidence advisory body to Welsh Government under the Welsh Government Strategy for Suicide Prevention and Self-Harm 2025–2035.
We provide robust, independent evidence to inform national and local suicide prevention policy, service design, and implementation across Wales.
How we support policy and practice
- Strategic evidence advice
We translate high-quality research into clear, actionable insights to inform government strategy and delivery plans. - Population-level data insight
Using linked, routinely collected data, we identify patterns of risk, service contact points, and opportunities for earlier intervention. - Evaluation of prevention activity
We support the assessment of suicide and self-harm prevention initiatives to understand what works, for whom, and in what contexts. - Lived experience partnership
Our work is shaped by a dedicated Experience to Experts advisory group, in partnership with the Samaritans, ensuring prevention efforts are ethically grounded and informed by real-world perspectives.
We work in partnership with government, health boards, local authorities, and third-sector organisations to strengthen prevention across Wales.
