{"id":790,"date":"2026-07-09T12:49:28","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T11:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncsruk.co.uk\/?page_id=790"},"modified":"2026-09-04T09:48:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T08:48:05","slug":"sarah","status":[],"type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ncsruk.co.uk\/cy\/public-and-people-with-lived-experience\/sarah\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarah Rees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m Sarah, and I have both lived and professional experience of mental illness, self-harm and suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Professionally, since 2014 I\u2019ve worked at Swansea University as a health data analyst and researcher, using routinely collected data from health and other services, with a focus on mental health, substance use, self-harm and suicide. I also provide support to other researchers with their projects.<\/p>\n<p>My personal experience is of growing up with a parent who had herself been bereaved by parental suicide, struggled with her own mental health, and died by suicide. She was also a passionate and inspirational campaigner for the rights of people with mental illness. This has profoundly shaped my life and my understanding of the lasting, sometimes inter-generational impact such experiences can have on individuals and families. I want these experiences to enable me to make a positive contribution, helping researchers use data to improve people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of work, I love music, cats, gardening, and wandering the Welsh countryside photographing wildlife.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ncsruk.co.uk\/cy\/public-and-people-with-lived-experience\/\"><span class=\"btn-arrow sg-primary\">Back<\/span><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m Sarah, and I have both lived and professional experience of mental illness, self-harm and suicide.
